an adult is to receive Heparin 1000 units per hour the solution available has 25,000 units in 1 liter D5W and a pump will be used

Solutions

Expert Solution

mL /hr =(volume of IV fluid in mL / total number of units in volume time) ×( units in dose/time (hr))

ie, 1 liter =1000ml

So, mL/hr = (1000ml/25000 units) × (1000 units/1 hr)

=(1/25)×1000

=1000/25

=40

Thus, 40ml/hr
