Give 1000 mL of D5W with 25,000 units of heparin to infuse at 30 mL/h. Calculate the hourly dosage of heparin.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Given 1000ml of D5W

Heparin : 25000units ( 1000mlD5+25000Heparin)

Infusion rate 30ml/hr

If 1000ml=25000 units heparin

Then 30ml=??

Cross multiply 25000*30/1000=750units

therefore 30ml=750units of heparin

So in one hour a dosage of 750 units of Heparin will be administered.
