Gene's and Inheritance of dna

Gene's and Inheritance of dna

Solutions

Expert Solution

Dna is the heritable genetic material. It moves from parents to their offspring. Dna is negatively charged due to the phosphate group that is why it is associated with positively charged histone protein.

Dna is consist of coding and non coding sequence.

Gene present in the coding region are transcribed and those which are present in the non coding sequence are not transcribed and gene is said to be silenced.

Dna transcribed into RNA , RNA undergo splicing and all introns or non coding sequence are removed . RNA is translated into protein .

Genes are located on the chromosome , during segregation each gametes contain one gene from either parent. As the chromosome are inherited from parents to their offspring similarly genes are also inherited along the chromosome.

Tracing inheritance of Y chromosomal DNA
In humans, the X and Y chromosomes are involved in sex determination: XX individuals are female, and XY individuals are male. Accordingly, Y chromosomes are present only in males and are passed only from fathers to sons.Mitochondria have their own genome, consisting of a single circular chromosome. Mitochondria are inherited only through the cytoplasm of the oocyte, so they are passed on by the mother, not the father. In human populations, both Y chromosomal DNA and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) may show...
