Mischel (1972) examined the relationship between delayed gratification as a child and variables related to success (i.e., future SAT scores, higher competence). From this general research idea, outline the following:

1. A logical hypothesis that identifies two variables (you can choose which variables you would focus on from the example)

2. An appropriate research strategy

3. An appropriate research design

4. The threats to validity and how they will be addressed

5. The interpretation of data and conclusions you will be able to draw (Be precise – are you looking at mean differences? Correlations between variables? Can you infer causation?)

Information I have so far.

1. There will be a relationship between delayed gratification in children and future SAT scores. The less gratification a child received the lower their SAT scores will be.

2. Quantitative research method set a SAT score that is below average and allows students to opt-in/out of a follow-up questionnaire based on scores.

An epidemiologic study in Belgium examined the relationship between daily sunlight exposure and the development of cataracts in 8,000 individuals. The results of the study were as follows: OR = 1.9 (95% CI = 1.2 to 4.6). After controlling for vitamin E intake, a possible protective factor, the ORMH was 3.6 (95% CI = 1.3 to 5.1). Failure to control for Viramin E led to which of the following in the above study? A. Negative Confounding B. Selection Bias C....

Is there a positive relationship between grit and GPA in high school seniors? A researcher examined this issue by having students beginning their senior year of high school complete a grit inventory using a Likert-based scale (range 1 – 7), where higher numbers indicate more “grit”. GPA was self-reported (scale 0 – 4.0). Enter the data shown here into SPSS to assess whether there is a positive relationship between grit and GPA.   Grit GPA 6.5 4.0 4.0 3.1 3.7 2.7...

Sir Francis Galton, a cousin of James Darwin, examined the relationship between the height of children and their parents towards the end of the 19th century. It is from this study that the name "regression" originated. You decide to update his findings by collecting data from 110 college students, and estimate the following relationship: studenth = 19.6 + 0.73 × Midparh, R2 = 0.45, SER = 2.0           (7.2)   (0.10) where Studenth is the height of students in inches, and...

A researcher has examined the relationship between the number of hours driven by long-distance truckers in a 24-hour period (X) and reaction time in seconds (Y) at the end of the 24-hour period. The relationship is approximately linear and the correlation between the two measures is +0.43. In order to assess the usefulness of the independent variable as a predictor of reaction time, the research team determined that the regression line was given by the following: Y’ = -2.5 +...
