The National Labor Relations Act was passed in 1935 and it is still to this day the only legislation that governs federal labor relations. The Labor Relations Process has three components to it.
Describe the three phases of the labor relations process and their importance.
The three phases of the labor relations process are discussed as
below:
· organization of unions
· collective bargaining
· administration of contracts
Labor unions refers to organization of workers who come together to form a group which speaks and works for them. In order for a union to be legal and valid, it needs certification from the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Once the union is formed, the next step is collective bargaining.
Collective bargaining refers to negotiations and bargaining between union leaders and management. These negotiations cover various different aspects of worker contracts, be it their work timings, work environment etc. A new contract is only approved when both sides agree with it.
Contract administration involves making sure the rules set in the contract are followed from both the sides i.e. workers and employers. In case of any disturbance, either of the party can approach higher authorities or discuss among themselves for a decision.
