Determine the order in which each process occurs in protein synthesis.
Rank the items from the process that occurs first to the process that occurs last. To rank items as equivalent, overlap them.
Ans. The order of events in protein synthesis (from first to last)-
I. DNA with specific gene unravels: DNA is unwound at the specific gene due to binding of transcription factors in promotor region of the gene. It is the initiation of transcription.
II. mRNA is synthesized: After initiation and promotor clearance, the process of transcription enters the elongation phase synthesizing the complete mRNA.
III. mRNA combines with ribosomes: A mature mRNA combines associates with ribosome- the site of protein synthesis. Binding of mRNA to ribosomes initiates translation.
IV. Amino acids are bonded together: mRNA codons are read on ribosomes and tRNA carries the specific amino acid to A-site of ribosome where peptide bond is formed between two amino acids. The process continues till whole mRNA is translated to produce a protein.
