Interogative Model of Organizational Behaviour

This approach is based on congurence model of organizational behaviour which views the organizational behaviour which views the organization as n interdependent set of elements including tasks, individuals, formal organizational arrangements, and the informal organization. Within the context of the organization, change is seen as presenting three major problems:-

  • Resistance
  • Control
  • Power

These imply a need to motivate people to change, a need to change the transition, and a need to shape the political dynamics of change. Organizational commitment is one of the two individual outcomes derived from individual mechansims like job satisfaction, stress, motivation, trust, justice, ethics and learning and decision making. These mechansims and outcomes can be found on the integrative model of organizational commitment in their Organizational Behaviour(OB).

Theory X As an Interogative Model of Organizational Behaviour

This theory states that the time it takes for information to reach managers, and the distortion of information at any of these links affects the accuracy of the information being communicated. the probability of distortion increases with the length of the communication chain. Many organizations have reduced the number of managerial levels in the organizational hierarchy (due to economic recession and competitive pressures), especially at middle management level. This reduction in levels has decreased the number of links in the communication chain, thus improving communication within organizations.

In these theories, he has made two contrasting sets of assumptions about individuals at work - negative and positive. Theory X assumes that people are lazy and have an inherent dislike for work in order to get the desired results.

Theory Y As an Interogative Model of Organizational Behaviour

Theory Y has become more popular among organizations. This reflects workers' increasing desire for more meaningful careers. People have greater responsibility and managers encourage them to develop their skills and suggest improvements. Appraisals are regular but, unlike in theory X organizations, they are used to encourage open communication rather than control staff. This style of management assumes that workers are:-

  • Happy to work on their own initiative.
  • More involved in decision making
  • Self-motivated to complete their tasks
  • Solve problems as fulfilling and challenging.
