The subject of Organizational Behaviour and Management
Of all the concepts discussed in any class, which was the most important and relevant to you? Why?
Of all the concepts discussed in this class Self-Reflection Exercise: What Motivates you” was most important and relevant to me. Motivation is a key stimulus in the pursuit for success that is used by various organizations and people to drive for better results. Bloomsbury Business Library defines motivation as “the creation of stimuli, incentives, and working environments, which enable people to perform to the best of their ability in pursuit of organizational success. Motivation is commonly viewed as the magic driver that enables managers to get others to achieve their targets” (2007, p.4900). Ultimately, motivation pushes us forward, helps us break new personal growth barriers and by overcoming the challenges, offers a reward as reinforcement. There are several theories of motivation that can be utilized by a person or an organization. The one that I most related to was the process theory of goal-setting and expectancy
In this competitive environment organization are striving to boost earnings that’s why they are inevitably turning their attention to the issue of employee productivity and motivation. When employees are unsatisfied with their work situation, productivity decreases, tension builds in the workplace, and morale becomes very low. Companies have known that morale affects productivity. In this century companies have to come to terms with the factors that can create positive morale and an environment that attracts and retains workers and encourages them to produce. For example, many companies look for training and practices that aim to achieve a higher level of employee motivation. Perhaps the single most important technique for motivating the people you supervise is to treat them the same way you wish to be treated: the right balance of respect, dignity, fairness, incentive, and guidance, and you will create a motivated, productive, satisfying, and secure work environment.
Whether it’s motivation in the workforce or personal motivation, both are critical to attain success, to maintain a certain balance (in an organization or personal life) and push for new levels of growth. I strongly believe that goal-setting theory and expectancy theory are the most important ones as they demonstrate a methodic and organized approach to conserve your motivation and reach attainable goals for pursuit of personal satisfaction.
