Which of these conditions is least likely to promote turbulent blood flow?
A. Anemia
B. Thrombi
C. Atherosclerosis
D. Polycythemia
D. Polycythemia
Generally blood flow in body is laminar flow if any change inthe flow of blood that means any narrowing of blood vessels due to thrombus or atherosclerotic plaques it may cause turbulent blood flow instead of laminar blood flow. The resistance increases and the flow of blood also increases.
In anemia, level of rbc's (hematocrite) was low, so the velocity of blood increases and viscosity decreases. So the blood flow vigorously. In case of polycythemia the increase in rbc's in blood cause hyperviscosity of blood, the blood become more thicker.so it is least chance of turbulent blood flow. But there is a chance in this is, polycythemia sometimes leads to blood clot formation. turbulent blood flow occurs if thrombus forming in the blood vessels.
