Expert Solution

Some of the barriers to change that are most likely to occur are:

  • Risk perception: This is the most common barrier to change. People generally hesitate to change, as they do not want to face any type of risk associated with it.
  • Uncertainty: Uncertainty avoidance forms the greatest and most frequently occurring barrier to change. People do not like to anticipate uncertainty and surprises and so they remain satisfied in the status quo.
  • Complacency or Knowledge Deficit: If the person is satisfied with his knowledge level or he does not have the knowledge to face a new scenario, he becomes hesitant to change. This is again, one of the most likely occurring barrier to change.
  • Passive resistance: People do this unknowingly. They have various factors contributing to this passive resistance.

Some of the barriers to change that are least likely to occur are:

  • Active resistance: There are quite few people who show active resistance to change. This is because it generally hurts their ego to accept that they have hesitancy to change.
  • Organization leaders: There are very rare instances in which the organization leaders are the reason for resistance to change
  • Organization decline: Nowadays organizations are quite open to change and evolution. So it is very least likely that an organization decline will pose resistance to change.
