1. Is it acceptable for police officers to use potentially unethical, but legal, tactics when conducting an investigation? (100 Words)
2. Many claim that the police have become more "militarized" in the post-September 11th Era? Do you agree? Why or why not? (100 Words)
One of the most important responsibilities of the police officers is to prevent crimes and bring the criminals in order to be punished and serve justice to the victims. This would mean that they have the responsibility to use any means to bring out the truth from the offenders except forcing them to accept the crime which they didn’t do. So, in my opinion, police officers could use deception to make the offenders accept the crimes that they committed or about to commit. At the end of the day, the society and people need to be safe and secure from any threat both from outsiders and insiders.
It’s true that the police officers have started acting like military personnel while they are expected to be friendly with the people in the neighbourhood they serve. Until 9/11 attack, the relationship was good between the public and the police but the changes brought by the war on terror has increased the power of the police officers while at the same time demanding them to be tough on people, especially on people of colour. This has caused the police officers to engage in conflicts that attract more protests from the public. The stop and frisking has also caused more inconvenience to the ordinary people who rush for their work and back home.
