Solutions

Expert Solution

1. Two ways in which police officers can promote positive relationships between community members could be

(i) equal treatment of all races and

(ii) criminalising any police officer which indulges in any discriminating behaviour.

2. a) Two ways in which race, racism, etc in the education system influences inequalities in the economic system is by (i) providing access to quality education to only the privileged class and (ii) discriminating the less privileged by constantly making them aware among the peers of the limited opportunities and background. This leads to less income earning opportunities in the economic system and more indulgence in working in the unorganised sector, which leads to greater number of crimes being committed by the discriminated class as the normal economic system doesn't let them rise and earn a decent living.

b) These issues matter because the future growth of the economy depends on such parameters. If not addressed then it leads to increase in crime rate and more money being spent by the government on eradicating crime rather than spending on economic development.

Two long term consequences are thus (i) Increase in the level of income inequality as the rich go on turning richer and the poor end up becoming more poor.

(ii) Less opportunities for the future generation leading to less output and productivity per worker because less number of people gain an education.

3. It's important for police officers to be impartial because it creates a level playing field in a society where all the citizens are treated equally and there is no discrimination. People come together much more often which creates generation of new ideas and respect for one another. This leads to people coordinating much more with police officers without them being in fear of being discriminated upon. Officer's will be treated with respect and dignity in such cases when they genuinely show concern for a person, which is not just based on the color of the skin.
