Effects of conquest To what extent has Mexican (and Latin American) culture and society been shaped by the events of the conquest?
Spanish defeat of Mexica How and why did the Spanish defeat the Mexica, despite being so outnumbered? Does this say anything about Spanish and Mexica culture?
1. The Spanish was able to defeat Mexico for their coalition army. The coalition army comprised Spanish forces and Tlaxcalan warriors. Hernan Cortes led the campaign against Spanish with the help of the Indians. The purpose was to establish colonization there.
Besides the Aztec military ruler could not esrablish a harminious army. There was many possibilities of rebellion. The people were not satisfied with the rule of the Aztec empire. They were not so efficient warriors. Cortes took this weakness. Therefore in his he easily conquered Mexico.
2. The great change çame in language and religion. Cortes wanted to convert the native people into Catholic and he was married with an Indian woman. He first converted his wife as Catholic and then he appointed many friars to learn Spaniard. With the help of Soanish laanguage he wanted to convert the natives into christianity. Along with religion education and culture was also changed gradually.
