(Answer) The solution to the issue of discrimination against minorities lies in the US legislation itself. If one were to analyse this issue in terms of law enforcement and conviction, then the US legislation offers certain rights to suspects. The bases of these investigations are that the individuals involved are “innocent until proven guilty.”

Whenever a situation is on the brink of racial discrimination, this basic law needs to be upheld. Not only with legislation but, also people need to stop seeing people of minorities as delinquents of society. The principle applied in everyday life is the same. If there is no proof that an individual from a certain minority group is involved in a crime, there is no reason to treat them otherwise.

One can take into account the psychological phenomena known as “Stereotype Threat.” This phenomenon states that stereotyped groups tend to adopt behaviours that their stereotypes are known for. It can help prove that reducing stereotype mentality can actually help decrease the number of people who are victims of being stereotyped.

Therefore the public and law enforcement should both adhere to one single legislative rule, “innocent until proven guilty.” Once this technicality is adopted and discrimination decreases by lawful means, it is quite possible to step ahead into the realms of compassion.
