What are your thoughts on the afterlife?
The philosophy of afterlife is basically a belief that certain aspects of a living being's (especially human's) indentity or a plane of consciousness which perpetuates even after death. Those aspects or essential elements are known by names like soul, spirit, etc.
Many non-believers who are critical of arterlife can condemn it as pseudoscience. There are neurobiologists who are of the opinion that everything is physical and their exist no aspect other than the physical aspect that render consciousness to any living organism. The neuronal activities, for example, that enable physiologically enable the mental faculties are also physical in nature. There have been various scientific studies to explore the concept of afterlife. One such study sampled patients who survived cardiac arrests. A good portion of them confessed that they felt that they were dead during the phase when their heart stopped working, until it resumed its pumping. Such studies have led to hypotheses that consciousness is not entirely destroyed after a few minutes of death.
However, a perpetual afterlife with substantial consciousness after death is still viewed with skepticism and does not have enough support from scientific community.
