Briefly summarize the central dogma and indicate where gene expression can be controlled along the way.
Central dogma in molecular biology describes the flow of genetic information. This specifically include 2 main step- Tramscription and Translation. The flow of information starts from double stranded DNA to single stranded RNA also called mRNA because it is a messenger of genetic inforation to next step which is synthesis of protein or translation. The information in gene flows into protein via DNA--RNA--Protein.
Gene expression is controlled at transcription and translation level. Information from a gene to make a final product is called gene expression. At transcription, DNA is coded into mRNA by DNA dependent RNA polymerase. This mRNA has non-coding and coding part. Non-coding part(Introns) is removed and coding part(Exons) are spliced together. Exons further goes into next step in translation and are coded their by ribosomes into amino acid chain. On further modification these amino acid chains make functional proteins.
