Solutions

Expert Solution

NSAIDs are frequently used to treatinflammatory conditions such as arthritis, bursitis and tendonitis. NSAIDs are relatively inexpensive and are frequently the first line ofmedication used to relieve pain and reduceinflammation. Very low doses of NSAIDs may be prescribed for people with cardiac disease

COX-2 inhibitors are a type of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that directly targets cyclooxygenase-2, COX-2, an enzyme responsible for inflammation and pain.

COX-2 inhibitors (such as Celebrex andBextra) are a type of NSAID and are the most commonly prescribed drugs for arthritis. COX-2 inhibitors are also prescribed for many forms of back pain.

The most common DMARDsused to treat RA include:

  • hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil)
  • leflunomide (Arava)
  • methotrexate (Trexall)
  • sulfasalazine (Azulfidine)
  • minocycline (Minocin)
  • Corticosteroids are medications often used to treat arthritis and related conditions. These medications are widely used because of their overall effectiveness in reducinginflammation--the process that causes the joint pain warmth and swelling ofarthritis and related conditions.
