Create a table of the following Cardiovascular and Systemic Diseases:
4) Tularemia
5) Toxoplasmosis
6) Plague
7) Dengue fever
8) Infectious Mononucleosis
9) Ebola
10) Lyme disease
11) Cytomegalovirus Disease
Create columns as shown below:
Name of Disease | Causative Agent(s) | Common Mode of Transmission | Pathogenesis and Virulence factors | Epidemiology | Prevention and Treatment |
Name of Disease | Causative Agent | Common mode of Transmission | Pathogens and Virulence Factors | Epidemiology | Prevention and Treatment |
Tularemia | Gram negative cocobacillus Francisella tularensis |
- during handling the infected animals, -ingestion of contaminated food or water, -inhalation of infective aerosols and arthropod bites. |
Type IV secretion system, ATP binding cassette proteins 23 KD protein named as IgIC |
Tularemia is mainly reported in the northern hemisphere. It is also reported in the Middle East hemisphere of the world. |
Prevention is to stay away from infected rabbits and rodents or any other reservoirs known to be infected. Treatment = Antibiotics such as Streptomycin, Gentamycin Tetracyclin, Chloramphenicol or Fluoroquinolones. |
Toxoplasmosis | Single cell parasite Toxoplasma gondii |
Transmission by = ingestion of raw or inadequately cooked infected meat. contact with cats and their faeces. |
TgHSP70 ROP18 |
The 22.5% of the United States population over age 12 is infected with this disease. In other countries, the percentage of infection is between 30 to 95%. |
Prevention = by cooking food at standard safe temperature. fruits should be washed. Treatment = Antibiotic = sulphadiazin. Folic acid with pyrimethamine |
Plague | Yersinia pestis |
Transmission: Plague is transmitted from rodents to human by the bite of an infected flea. through respiratory droplets from infected people |
Endotoxin associated with lipopolysaccharides (LPS). Presence of plasmid which gives the bacterium the ability to develop resistance to antibiotics. |
The outbreak of Plague results into pandemics which spreads upto Egypt, Mediterranean, Europe, West coast of the United States. |
Prevention = by making home and surrounding area rodent proof. by wearing gloves to prevent contact between skin and plague bacteria during handling of infected animals Antibiotics such as Strptomycin, Gentamycin, Doxycycline or Ciprofloxacin. |
