What does it mean to say that transcription and translation are coupled, and what are some of the potential problems with this?
Transcription and translation are coupled in prokaryotes. This means that there isnt any temporal or spatial separation in the two processes. as the DNA is getting transcribed into mRNA it starts to get translated too. This occurs in cytoplasm. In contrast, in eukaryotes the DNA is first transcribed into mRNA completely and then it is transported out of the nucleus where it is translated into proteins.
