1.BUBBLE HEE method is one of the assessment tool for a post natal mother.

  • Assess the breast for any tenderness, pain, discharge ,engorgement ,breastfeefing , latching. In case of any issues manage by teaching breastfeeding techniques ,use of post natal bra, warm compress, breastmilk express in case of engorgement .
  • Uterus :Check whether the fundus is firm in case of boggy administer uterine medications as per order .Manage pain with medication, comfort devices ,diversions therapy
  • Bowel:check for bowel sounds and initiate diet as per order in case of cesarean section
  • Bladder :assess for any complaints of painful micturation, quantity, frequency .Manage this by increasing the fluid intake, mobilisation
  • Lochia :Assess its color ,odour, consistency ,quantity to know how the uterus is functioning .It can be helpful to identify post natal hemorrhage and complications .Provide sterile pad, perineal hygiene
  • Episiotomy:Assess for any redness ,tenderness ,erythema, bleeding.Provde perineal hygiene ,antimicrobial application ,sits bath.

  • Pain management with administration of analgesics as per order
  • Monitor the site for any pain ,tenderness ,swelling, redness, oozing, fever to identify any infection
  • Check for bowel sounds to initiate oral diet
  • Monitor for urine output after catheter removal
  • Administration of antibiotics to prevent infection
  • Teach the mother the breast feeding techniques or position to feed the baby
  • Provide psychological support to relieve from anxiety

  • Infection:Medication ,aseptic procedure ,hygienic measure ,meticulous hand hygiene
  • Hemorrhage :Assess the quality and quantity of discharge .Ensure the patient is not under any anticoagulant therapy ,avoid strenuous exercise
  • Incontinence:Teach kegel exercise ,encourage to drink adequate fluid
  • Constipation :encourage to take adequate fruits and vegetables ,fibre rich diet ,plenty of liquids ,mild activities ,routine bowel habits daily.
  • Postpartum depression : psychological support, teach post natal care, family therapy and support during this period ,relaxation techniques

4.Nursing management of an antenatal women with eclampsia are

  • Monitor vital signs especially blood pressure
  • Administration of magnesium sulfate in order to prevent eclampsia during labor
  • Assess for signs of any abnormalities related to pre eclampsia

5.The danger signs during pregnancy and postpartum period are

  • Bleeding during pregnancy or heavily after deliver
