Why it is important for a worker to recognize, respect, and accommodate client's need to express his sexuality?
Ans. The workers should engage with the existing guidance on recognising and meeting the sexual need of their clients. Relevant policies and practices should recognise the diversity of residents and avoid treating them all the same, an approach that risks reinforcing inequality and falls short of meeting different needs related to sex, sexualty and intimacy. The views of non white, working class and LGBT individuals are commonly absent from research and knowledge on aging sexualty and service provision.
It safeguards vulnerable individuals and also help in achieving a balance between enabling choices, desires and rights. Indeed there is a need for nationally recognised training on such issues. Demonstrate understanding of the impact of the client's circumstances on an individual's expression on identity and sexualty. It helps to recognise the importance of community values and attitudes regarding sexualty, ageing and disabilty.
