Fits the person's valued life patterns and set of meanings

Requires specific knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the delivery of care

Cultural competence is necessary because it helps the nurse offer the best services to every patient, leading to high satisfaction and care on the side of the patient.

Nurses shall gain an understanding of the perspectives, traditions, values, practices, and family systems of culturally diverse individuals, families, communities and populations for whom they care, as well as a knowledge of the complex variables that affect the achievement of health and well being.

#. It is important to treat patients with dignity because patients who commented positively about being treated with dignity and respect were most likely to say they were treated with care and compassion by staff who were friendly, helpful, professional, and understanding. Patients say this helped them feel safe and better able to cope with the hospital experience.

Treating patients with dignity implies being sensitive to patients needs and doing one's best for them, but it also means: Involving them in decision-making. Respecting their individuality. Allowing them to do what they can for themselves.
