what techniques can a social worker use to enhance a client's self awareness?
Following are some techniques that a social worker can use to enhance a client's self-awareness.
When a Social worker is self-aware then he can deal with countertransference and transference. This will help him to observe and understand the client better.
Further, A social worker can enhance a client's self-awareness by educating him/her about his state and concern.
Once the client is aware of what is going around him eventually we can make them understand that how to work on what is going inside them. By undergoing counseling they can keep a goal of expanding themselves and working on self-awareness.
Once the Social worker is aware of the behavior of the client. For example, denial, distancing or any such unhealthy trait than the social worker once building rapport can confront and educate how getting self-aware will help the client build the tolerance to deal with the situation.
Making the client understand the cause and nature of the behavior and how he can deal with it by himself in a more healthy way.
Another way is to invest time to help clarify the vision for themselves, their personal values and beliefs and how realistic they are.
Also, sharing the benefits of self-awareness can help the client understand its importance and can increase the willingness.
Thus, Rapport building, educating, genuineness and confronting by the social worker can help a client enhance self-awareness.
