How does a Footbinding practice last for so many years? What caused it to spread throughout a very large country?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Foot Binding was a practice that originated from the upper class court dancers in China which spread quickly among the upper class women. It is about binding the feet so tightly that it shrinks and the shrunk feet would be called the lotus feet which stood as a status symbol and beauty. Although foot binding limited the women’s movement and caused disability, it was still practiced due to its status symbol. This practice quickly spread among the ordinary women in china too as it was projected as the symbol of beauty.
