  1. Describe and ELISA test. How is it like a Western blot? What are the advantages over a Western blot? Disadvantages?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Ans :- ELISA TEST ( enzyme linked immunosorbent assay) :- it is a test used to detect and measure the antibody in our body the antibody is infectious or not and basically detects immune response in our body.

Western blot :- it is a analytical technique which is used to evaluate the size of proteins in the sample and mixture of proteins are separated on the basis of molecular wight .

Advantage :- 1. It can analyze recombinant proteins synthesized invitro.

2.it an analyze any protein wether from cell or tissue .

3. It is depend upon the quality of antibody used to probe for your protein of intrest.

4. It can distinguish between HIV antibodies and other antibodies.

Disadvantage :-

1. Protein degraded quickly so that western blot not detect it well.

2.Expensive

3.subject to interpretation (presence or absence of bond, intensity of those bonds)

4. Technically demanding , it requires optimizing the experimental conditions like protein isolation , buffer, gel concentration)
