Describe in some detail a western blotting and a ligand
blotting technique for the detection and comparison of relative
levels of a cellular protein (e.g. receptor) in two different cell
lines.
ELISA and Western Blots tell us a lot about infections. What
does western blot do that ELISA cannot? What does an ELISA do
easier than a western blot? Hint: Think about how the assay is
done. How is it set up? What data does it give you?
A graduate student just finished running a western blot and was
shocked to see that his protein of interest was not present in any
of his samples. Prior to running the western blot, he saw a band at
the right molecular weight using SDS-PAGE analysis. Using your
understanding of western blotting and SDS-PAGE analysis, explain
these seemingly conflicting results.
