it is a tall plant with clear xylem and phloem, the gametophyte is dependent on the sporophyte and there are seeds. It could be either _______________.

Solutions

Expert Solution

angiosperms or gymnosperms

Seed producing vascular plants like angiosperms and gymnosperms have gametophytic generation depending on the sporophytic generation. Sporophyte is deploid with a set of two chromosomes per cell and the germ cells or gametophytes are haploid. Upon fertilization, the gametophytes in angiosperms and gymnosperms, develops into seed which is deploid and grows into sporophyte or the growth phase. Here sporophyte does not depend on the gametophyte as they have special vascular system and they are photosynthetic too. The gametophyte depend on sporophytic stage for their development.

In angiosperms the ovary and the pistil produces the female ovule and male pollengrains which are the haploid gametophytes. While in gymnosperms the haploid gamates are produced from special structures called male and female cones which produces haploid male microspore and haploid female archegonia.

(T) represents tall and (t) represents dwarf stem lengths in a plant. There is a breeding between two heterogygous tall plants ( Tt * Tt). This results in 75 percent being tall and 25 percent being dwarf. If 4 plants grew up during this breeding, it is possible for all the offspring to be all dwarfs? I want to know if there is a chance they all could all be dwarfs, even if it is very rare.
