Question
In all land plants evolution, " alternation of generation" is an important concept. All land plants alternate their life cycle in between sporophyte(diploid) and gametophyte (haploid).
The first land plants were bryophytes (non-vascular plant) and these plants have gametophyte is the dominant stage of their life cycle and sporophyte occur ocassionally and depend on the gametophyte for nutrients. The second evolved plants were pteriodophytes. These are first vscular plants. These plants have gametophytes stage that produces spores by mitosis and sporophyte that produce spores. In these plants, sporophyte is the dominant phase of plant life and they are not dependent on the gametophyte for the nutrition. After it come the next evolved plants known as " gymnosperm" and present day plants known as "angiosperms". Both these plants have sporopphyte phase as dominant stage of plant life-cycle
