Discuss 5 factors that have influenced the increasing development of resistant microbial strains
Resistance is a condition in which there is no effect of drugs/antibiotics on microbes.
Below are some of the factors which has influenced the increasing development of resistance microbial strains -
1. Use of excessive antibiotics - When drug dose of higher concentration is used, it results in the development of resistance towards drug and allows the microbes in its better evolution.
2. Mutation and selection - When a new mutation develops in microbes as a result of defective repair pathways or due to the selection of antimicrobial strains, it results in the development of resistance in microbes.
3. Improper sanitation and absence of hygiene increases the chance of developing resistance in microbes as these environment enhances the growth of microbes.
4. When the prescribed drugs are not used for their complete duration/course or when withdrawn before the complete dosage gives sufficient time for microbes to develop resistance.
5. Wrong use of drugs in farm animals.
