A school nurse notices bruises and scares on a child's body. The nurse suspects the child is being physically abused. What would be the next step for the nurse to take with this information and why?
School is nurse has the responsibility to give primary care to the students .Here the student appears to be physically abused. The bruise and scars should be taken care by applying the appropriate antibiotic lotion or cream to the affected area .Just after doing this ask the child, what does happened to him. How these injuries occurred. Irrespective of whether the child is giving appropriate answer or not, immediately inform the principal or dean of the school regarding the incident. It is very important, because there are many legal aspects of this kind of things. The nurse is appointed to give the primary care. Immediately after giving the primary care, the duty of the nurse is to inform the incident to the concerned authority, that means head of the institution. Head of the institution will inform the incident to the parents as well as the police officials for the further necessary action required. The nurse should always clear his or her side by informing these kinds of issues to concerned authority so that no burden will be build upon the nurse. Legally he or she will be cleared .
