A theory is a statement that purports to account for or characters some phenomenon and that it pulls out the salient parts of a phenomenon so that one can separates the critical and necessary factors or relationships from the accidental or unessential factors or relations.
A nursing theory is a set of concepts, depositions and propositions that projects a systematic view of phenomena by designing specific interrelationship among concepts for the purposes of describing, explaining, predicting and or controlling phenomena.
a. Philosophy :- It is a belief and value that hepls to define a way of thinking and generally known and understood by a group.
if we are considering an academic discipline, philosophy is the study of the basic nature of knowledge, reality and existances,
b. Nursing Philosophy :- nursing philosphy is a statement that describes the nurse's values, ethics and beliefs as well as their motivation for being part of the profession. The philosophy of nursing is a personal perspective and attitude that is part of onec belief about the feild of nursing and the purpose of their nursing education and practice. It helps a person to percive the nursing profession and the reson behind the actions of them and participation of them in the feild of nursing.
c.Metaparadigm :- It is the general statement of discipline and functions as a framework in that more restricted structures of conceptual models (conceptual model is representation of a system, made of the composition which are used to help people to know, understand or simulate a subject the model which represent) develop.
A metaparadigm is a set of theories or ideas that provide structures for how a discipline should function.
for instance, in nursing discipline, these theories consists of four basic conceps that address the patients as a whole, the patient's health and well-being, the patient's enviroment and the nursing responsibilities.
d. Nursing Metaparadigm :- In nursing metaparadigm, there are four major concepts which are interrelated and fundamental to nursing. They are,
1. Person (Patient)
2. Environment
3. Health
4. Nursing
1. Person (Patient) :- Person is the recipent of nursing care or is an individual who requires assisstance to acheive health and independence.
2. Environment :- Environment as the aggregate of all external and internal surrounds that influence the life of the person or patient. It may include all positive and negative conditions that affect the person or patient (examples: families, friends, settings etc.)
3. Health :- Health is defined as the degree of wellness or welbeing that the person or client feel or experiencing. it may have different meaning for the person, client or patient like their clinical setting, the health care provider who give the satisfactory care to the patient.
According to WHO, health is defined as "a state of complete physical, mental, mental, social, spiritual well-being, and not merely absence of disease or infirmity".
4. Nursing :- there are various definitions for the nursing but the ultimate goal of the nursing is improve the health of the patient by providing quality nursing care. The action of the nurse is provide nursing action to imrpove the health status of the paerson who need quality care.
Henderson definition of nursing is, "The unique function of the nurse is to assist the individual, sick or well, in the performance of those activities contributing to health or its recovery (or to paceful death) that he would perform unaided if he had the necessary strength, will or knowledge, And to do this is such a way as to help him to gain independence rapidly as possible".
