Solutions

Expert Solution

Compensation: this was one of the basic motivators that were used as descriptors by Adler. This was referred to as the process in which a person would strive to overcome the inherent limitations of a person.

Inferiority: he believed that some people become entangled in the their own perception of inferiority. According to him, all of the humans do have a sense of inferiority, which is managed by some children as they try to dream of becoming adults or by trying to become good at something that a person is not.

Lifestyle: lifestyle is what is accounted by individual’s psychology. In this trait, there is inclusion of conflicts, internal traits, structures as well as dynamics. The ways in which a person would handle problems as well as interpersonal relationships in an unique way, defines how the life style of an individual is shaped.

What are the main differences between Freud's and Adler's theories of personality?

According to Adler, the theory of a person cannot be broken down into various components, like Freud’s theory, in which there are three different components referred to the id, the ego as well as the superego. Adler’s main emphasis was on the understanding of an entire person, in considering all the aspects and all the emotions. Also, Adler was known to be in support of the theories of Nietzsche, which were later incorporated in the thoughts of Freud.

Do you agree or disagree with these theorists? Why?

I agree with the theory of Adler, in which every aspect of an individual’s life is mentioned. It is important that all the aspects of an individual’s life and personality are mentioned. In this theory, from aggression, to compensation to inferior and lifestyle is emphasised on.
