Toddlers have some very unique behavioral characteristics as they move from infancy to childhood. Identify these behavioral changes. Include the challenges that parents may face with these characteristics including identifying temperament, nutritional barriers, hygiene, activity and sleep.
Toddlers are defined by 1 to 2 age group of children when most children's exhibit developmental milestones.
Certain characteristics they represent are listed below.
Temperament:- children in this age act and react differently to various things. Getting irritated showing temper tantrums is very common. Be with the child nd see that they don not harm themselves. Safety of child Is the priority. Do not stop them instead encourage them to explore new things.Respond the behaviour you want instead of punishing them for the unwanted behaviour.
Nutritional barrier:- they become erratic eater. Generally this age requires less food because the growth is slower. So it is ok if they don't have it. Try and give food multiple options in food and let them select the one they want. Keep introducing new nutritional food items. Give milk instead of aerated drinks.
Hygiene:- They keep on taking everything they get in their hands into mouth be it a food item or anything. So keep a watch and keep them clean . Their clothes might get dirty while eating, clean them on and off. Always keep a child neat clean and tidy.
Activity:- activity is highest in this group. So do not leave your child alone especially near bathtubs,ponds, water bodies. Chances of drowning are more. Ensure that your house is shockproof. Child may go near electrical circuits, washing machines, refrigerator etc. Keep kitchen appliances out of reach of children. Locker your medicines.
Sleep:- ensure your child gets enough of sleep as this will reduce their irritability and mood swings.atleast 8-10 hours of sound sleep is essential.
