Should the states take stronger measures against the federal government?
No not at all. They should rather believe in cooperative federalism. If states act harshly against federal govt there will be anarchy. States and federal govt are two wheels of bicycle. If one punctures the second will be rendered useless automatically
Infact state govts in usa are more powerful than in almost all other federations. They have their own constitution, territory, identity, powers etc. On the other hand such features are missing in federations like canada and India. Furthermore reserve subjects fall in their domain unlike India and Canada. Not only this in some federations like India the central can declare national or state emergency and by doing so can take all administration in its own hands. Infact presidents rule in Indian states have been imposed quite often only because the central govt and state govt belonged to different parties. Even a simple law and order problem is used to impose presidents rule. Since 1950s it has been used more than 50 times. Compared to this we find states in usa powerful and strong. So no such action is warrented
