A sick child is different from a sick adult.The differences of illness in child and adult are based on antomic, psychological, and physiologic differences between the immature child and mature adult.

Mlignancies like leukemia, brain tumor ,wilm's tumor,bone tumor are common in children and the child having theses malignancies experiencing great emmotional disturbences .so it is very important to address the psychological needs of child while taking care them.

Psychological needs of child with cancer and psychological needs of their parents.

1. Family integrity and child's relationship should be maintained.

2.The sick child should be supported and guided to learn to handle new experience and feeling by family participation to provide love and security during illness and hospital stay.

3.Needs of each child are different based on individual differences, family background,level of growth,and development anddegree of illness.Assessment of these needs as well as those of family members forms the basis of nursing intervention.

4. The pediatric nurse seeks to promote,maintain,and restore health in both children and their counselling,and teaching about the needs.

5 .Hospitalized child should be cared by the professional nurses following scientific principles of disease processand nursing process with appropriate therapuetic and nursing interventions.

6. Family participation for planning,implementation, and evaluating plan of care is essential for optimal outcomes by cintinuity of care.

7 .Within asafe enviornment,the sick child needs expert physical care ,emotional support,expression of feelings,(through play)and continuation of school education to promote continued growth ,both in acute and chronic illness.

8.Parents should have trusting relationship with nurses and health team members and permission for expression f feelings and emotions inthe hospital enviornment.

9.Family members and their child who are under great stress , when a child is terminally illor dying must be supported emotionally ,so the child can die withdignity and feeling of beiing loved.

10.Hospitalization is the break in the unity of the family.so the emotional effect should be considered first,because it is often mistakenly accorded less important than the physical care given to the sick child.
