How do you adapt to the continuous changing of types of masks? Our facility has had so many types of mask vendors throughout this pandemic, and it was very difficult for us to ensure compliance with each type of mask? How are you complying with this?
In December 2019, coronavirus outbreak began in China and
quickly spread globally. The disease is caused by SARS-CoV-2 and
may result in mild flu like symptoms to breathing difficulties and
respiratory failure.
The WHO and CDC has recommended that use of a face mask helps
prevent the spread of infection as it stops entry of the virus
through nose and mouth as we breath.
But which mask to use is a big problem. People working in
healthcare setting are constantly exposed to the virus and are at a
higher risk of contracting the coronavirus. So judiciously choosing
a competent face mask is necessary. Our healthcare organisation
recommends a mask that properly fits the nose, mouth and chin. In
our healthcare setting we adhere to two types of masks. These are
three layered surgical mask and N95 respirators.
The surgical mask is loosely fitted and covers the nose, mouth and
chin. It mostly contains of ties that can be tied behind the head.
It prevents entry of large droplets and aerosol particle to enter
the body.
A N95 respirator is tightly fitted and mostly contains ear loops.
It prevents entry of small particles such as bacteria and viruses
as well.
Use of cloth masks and homemade fabricated masks is strictly not
recommended in our organisation as they do not provide the same
amount of protection as N95 and surgical masks.
