What differences would you see between a gene that is epigenetically silenced, compared to a gene that is not expressed because it has a mutation?

Solutions

Expert Solution

As the main difference between the epigenetically silenced gene and the gene that is not expressed because of mutation is in its activity of these genes.

So in the epigenetically silenced gene as the name indicated the silence gene these type of the genes are inactive gene. Due to which these gene will get transferred from one generation to the next generation. So due to which they possess the property that they get regulated with each generation due to the which the change occur in the chromatin structure which is in the cell cycle. which allows this epigenetic silenced gene to get change from one generation to another.

On contrary the gene which is mutant so these gene will not get expressed, this is due to the fact that in these genes the alteration takes place which occurs in the DNA sequence due to which they are not allows to get change or altered.

So this is the difference between the gene that is epigenetically silent and the gene that is not expressed because of mutation.
