*The need theory in nursing is proposed by Virginia Anderson. The need theory focused on the importance of increasing patient independence and basic human needs. This theory was derived from principles and practice of nursing .This theory suggest that the nurse should focus on the needs of the patient and provide appropriate care and faster recovery from illness.

Assumptions of need Theory

1)nurse care all individuals until they can perform performing their daily activities themselves although not precisely explained

2)patient have desire to return recovery

3)nurse are willing to serve all individuals in their illness and they devote themselves to the full day.

4)mind and body are inseparable and interrelated

Concept of need theory based on nursing metaparadiym

:individual ___this theory suggest that every individual have the own basic needs and identify the problem in basic need and appropriate care help to speedy recovery .This theory also state that the individual's body and mind are interchangeable so by providing care to an individual we should care not only the body but also consider all aspect of person's life.

:environment ___the role of environment in this theory is minimal but the environment have greater role in recovery of patient .This theory suggest that supportive environment should have to maintain wellness.

Health___it mean by that balance in aspect of human life and ability to perform their self care activities without assistance .

This theory consisting of 14 components that cover all aspects of life include spiritual,psychosocial,physical and environmental.

4)sleep and rest

5)select suitable clothing, dress and undress appropriately

6)maintain body temperature within normal range by adjusting clothing and modifying environment

7)keep the body clean and well groomed and protect the integument

8)avoid dangers in the environment and avoid injury others

9)communicate with others in expressing emotions, needs, fears and opinion

10)worship according to one's faith

11)work in such a way that there is a sense of accomplishment .

12)play or participate in various forms of recreation

13)learn,discover and satisfy the curiosity that leads to normal development and health

14)use the available health facility.

Application of this theory

The need theory of Virginia Andersen is mainly focused on the nursing practice. This theory is useful for every nurse at various settings.

This theory help to identify patient problems then set the short term and long term goal for patient care and provide appropriate interventions based on their personal needs. Application of theory helpful to best practices and improve patient satisfaction.

In the nursing research field also adopt the need theory to formulate research problems.

For example if a nurse working In emergency department, the patient come with an accident we check need of patient like is patient breath normally like that.

*Traditional healer in health care setting

Traditional healer is a person who selected from the community to provide health care services in a traditional manner. Most of the traditional methods are not scientifically proved and most of them are verbally transferred from one generation to others. This traditional method plays a major role in health care services in developing countries. The traditional healer mainly provide cultural based care.

The treatment based on the cultural practice is great significant in maintaining health. Culture is the way of living of a community.each community have different cultures like dressing, eating, function, lifestyle and spiritual beliefs.
