Nurses in leadership and management roles must congenially work together with staff to foster respect to all patients and colleagues, irrespective of their cultural differences. This discussion is designed to introduce key principles to address and apply among diverse groups.
Use Google Scholar™, Leading and Managing in Nursing, or the University Library to define multiculturalism, cross-culturalism, and transculturalism.
Explain the definitions and give an example by applying each term to a situation in your current practice setting (175 with Reference)
Multiculturalism refers to a society that have different ethnic and cultural groups of people and live together alongside but people does not have any interaction with other members of the group.
e.g. TB Patients from different countries staying in a same ward taking the same care given by health care personnel’s but they never interact with each other.
Cross-culturalism refers to the comparison of different cultures in a community. Communication differences among the people were understood and acknowledged by other members of the community. This can bring about individual changes but not the whole community transformation.
e.g. Patients are all unique followed different religion and culture. So some patients are vegetarian and some are not. Those who are vegetarian they provide only vegetarian foods and acknowledge them by the health care persons and respect them.
Transculturalism allows connecting different cultures, deep understanding and respect for all cultures. They mutual exchange ideas and cultural norms and the development of deep relationships.
E.g. Yoga is practice by every society irrespective of religion or caste or culture because its good for health.
