Why do we need carbohydrates and how much do you know about carbohydrates and how they contribute to energy in your body.
CARBOHYDRATE -
Carbohydrates are main source of energy ,they fuel your brain, kidney, heart , central nervous system, muscle
Your body can store extra carbohydrate in liver and muscles and can be used during the starvation
Reduced carbohydrate intake may cause nausea, constipation, vitamin and mineral deficiency
TWO MAIN FUNCTIONS are they provide energy to every cells and spare the protien and fat usage for energy
Carbohydrates deficiency may cause usage of protien and ketones for energy production and may lead to ketoacidosis
OTHER FUNCTIONS ARE
They provide stored energy
they promote digestive health
They influence heart health and diabetes
They are breaked down into simple sugar ,which is absorbed into blood , when simple sugar are increased in your body which stimulates the pancreas to release insulin which inturn helps the cell to use sugars for energy
They are used aerobically and anaerobic .
Aerobic - glucose is converted into energy with oxygen in mitochondria seen in muscle
Anaerobic - glucose is converted into energy without oxygen , seen in Red blood cells
Some carbohydrate increase blood sugar level quickly and some increase slowly that depends on glycemic index
