what do you know about digestion of Carbohydrates, Protein, and Lipids as well as the enzymes that help the process of their digestion? Please explain to me every single step in detail because I don't understand. Thank you!

Solutions

Expert Solution

Digestion of carbohydrates -

1. Mouth - In mouth , salivary-alpha-amylase or ptyalin an enzyme aids digestion of starch to dextrins and maltose.

2. Stomach - Hcl of gastric juice may hydrolyse some sucrose.

3. Duodenum - alpha - amylase an enzyme of pancreatic juice convert starch in to maltose.

Digestion of lipids or fats -

1.Stomach - Stomach consists of gastric lipase an fat splitting enzyme. But it has milder action.

2. Small intestine - pancreatic lipase and bile salts together play vital role in digestion of fat.

Bile salts activate lipase. This lipase now shows hydrotropic action or detergent action lowers surface tension thus promotes emulsification of fats.

Digestion of proteins -

1. Mouth - There is no digestion of protein in mouth.

2. Stomach - The pro-active enzymes are secreted by Stomach such as pepsinogens , trypsinogens.

This enzymes convert the proteins in to aminoacids by breaking their peptide linkage.
