Expert Solution

Glucose –Carbohydrate cycle

Person on low carbohydrate diet, convert its non-essential alanine( present in skeletal muscle) in to glucose through converting itself in to pyruvate. The whole process happen between skeletal muscle and the liver. Under low carbohydrate condition, protein breakdown process exceed and this lead to libration of amino acid to blood stream. Alanine from skeletal muscle diffuses in to blood stream and reach to liver. In liver, alanine was deaminated and amino group was transfer form alanine to alpha-ketoglutarate to form pyruvate and glutamate. Aminotransferases or transaminases catalyzed this reaction present in liver hepatic cells. Pyruate produced such way is processed through gluconeogenesis to produce glucose.

Glucose ? Pyruvate ? Alanine ? Pyruvate ? Glucose

A new low fat/carbohydrate diet was designed to assist with weight loss. From a population of obese people, 100 are randomly selected to go on the new diet, while another 100 are selected to eat a diet of a similar quantity of food but not as low in fats and carbohydrates. The weight loss of each of the 200 people are in the Excel file "Extra HW 1 Diet Study". Use 0.05 significance and answer the following. The Okinawan diet can be described as a low-energy, nutrient-rich, high-carbohydrate diet that may be beneficial for reducing the risk of many chronic diseases. The Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Range (AMDR) for carbohydrate is 45% to 65% of kcal. What percent of calories in this 1-day Okinawan diet menu come from carbohydrate? The amount of total carbs is 342.6 and the amount of total calories is 1790.5. (I wasn't provided with the amount of calories per gram of carbohydrate.)

A diet with ample carbohydrate ensures an adequate supply of oxaloacetate because glucose produces (glycerol, pyruvate, or acetyl CoA)    during glycolysis. In the electron transport chain, the coenzyme,( B vitamin niacin, B vitamin thiamine, or B vitamin biotin) , passes hydrogen and electrons to oxygen to form water, which is essential to life. In the Cori cycle or anaerobic glycolysis, (acetyl CoA, ADP, or ATP) is released to convert lactate to glucose, which is returned to the muscles for...

HIGH PROTEIN/LOW CARBOHYDRATE DIET. One of the current diets that seems to produce substantial weight loss in some persons is the high protein/low carbohydrate diet advocated by such authors as Atkins in his book, Diet Revolution, and Eades and Eades in their book, Protein Power. Although many nutritionists are concerned about the side effects of these diets, others feel the potential risks are outweighed (no pun intended) by the weight loss.
