  1. Would you place someone with an oxygenation problem on a ventilator immediately?
  1. Who is easier to ventilate? A patient with decreased compliance or increased compliance? Why?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Alveolar ventilation is the critical physiological variable determining the concentration of carbon dioxide and oxygen functioning in the alveoli.Inorder to reduce the alveolar ventilation we have to decrease the air exchange, then there will be reduction in oxygen concnetration and slight ncrease in the carbon dioxide.

2. The causes of dead space;

  • General Anaesthesia
  • artificial airway
  • neck extension
  • positive pressure ventilaation

3. minute volume is the total volume of gas enetring the lung per minute. it is equal to the tidal volume multiplied by the respiratory rate.

4. For patients who have oxygenation problem we would not keep them immediately on ventilator. Rather we first assess the amonut of oxygen that he can deliver and based on that either we provide face mask support, ventury mask, and then BIPAP, CPAP and finally to ventilator.

4.if the minute volume is increasing then it means that they have a lower carbon dioxide level.This means that human body is attempting to maintain physiologic hemostasis. It is always necassary to miantain a balance between the oxgen and co2. Therfeore this is bad
