The blockade of fast sodium channels results in suppression/ depression of phse 0 depolarization whereby V_max declines.

This results in prolongation of duration of action potential by decreasing conduction.

There is a decrease in the conductivity and increased refractoriness.

The cells are unable to undergo depolarization (due to blockade of sodium channels) and retard the generation of action potential.
