Answer: Ageism can be defined as the discrimination on the basis of the age. The ageism has several adverse impact on the health of the old age people. The ageism leads to increase the risk of the chronic diseases among older adults such as cardiovascular stress, depression, poor self efficacy etc. The ageism leas to reduced productivity among the older adults.
The ageism can influence the healthcare provisions of older adult clients as due to the bias, the poor outcome of the treatment, reduce efficacy of the treatment may result from the ageism in the healthcare. Ageism leads to increase poor medication, low efficiency of the treatment provided to the older patients. This could increase adverse events among older adults.
As a healthcare providers, it is important to perform self analysis to reduce the bias, poor attitude towards the ageism. To evaluate, it is important to provide better care to the older adults, providing them cultural competence environment, eliminating the risk, providing counselling to the patients. This will shows the behavior of healthcare professionals towards the older adults.
