Physiological changes that may occur in each stage of the adult, older adult and senior life-stage.
As aging occurs, our body undergoes a variety of changes to take place through the early, middle and late adult years. Each person experiences age related changes based on many factors : biological factors such as molecular and cellular changes commonly known as primary aging. Aging occurs due to controllable factors such as lack of exercise and poor diet is called secondary aging
PHYSIOLOGICAL CHANGES IN EARLY ADULTHOOD
Early adulthood is the age between 18 to 40 years. At this stage an individual attain their physical maturity and reached peak level of height and weight.
Characteristics are:
1) physical development and growth are mostly complete muscle strength reaction time, sensory abilities and cardiac functioning.
2)Womens are most fertile at this stage. Pregnancy and lactation are key physiological characteristics.
3)The aging process also begins early adulthood and is characterized by changes in skin, vision and reproductive capability.
PHYSIOLOGICAL CHANGES IN MIDDLE ADULTHOOD
Middle ADULTHOOD is the time of life that begins at age of 40 and lasts to 60.This is the midpoint of life.Adult during this phase increasingly aware of the gradual change in their body. Aging speeds during middle adulthood.
Physiological changes are:
1) Number of active brain cells decrease.
2Decline in vision, hearing and immune system functioning.
3) Cardiac output decreases. Heart begins to pump more slowly and irregularly during mid 50's.
4) Vital capacity dimnishes at the age of 40. By 65 slower lung exchange and expiration rate.
PHYSIOLOGICAL CHANGES IN LATE ADULTHOOD
Late adulthood period as those years that encompass age 65 and beyond. Aging in late adulthood profoundly affects appearance, sensation and motor abilities.
Physiological changes are:
1) Along with stamina, strength and suppleness starts to decline, along side mobility and use of fine motor skills that controls coordination and dexterity also decrease.
2)Likelihood of infections and diseases increase.
3) Eyesight deteriorates.
4)Mobility become more of a challenge.
5) Reduced levels of female and Male hormones like
Testosterone and estrogen.
