Electronic health records are defined as digitally stored healthcare information through an individual's lifetime with the purpose of supporting continuity of care,education and research.The EHR may contain informations lik laboratory tests,medical imges,treatments,history of patient,drug administered,details regarding diseases conditions which needs privacy.The main barriers that have been identified are technical issues,system interoperability,concerns about privacy and confidentality,lack of health information data standards,lackof a well trained clinician informatics workforce to lead the proces,the number of vendors n the market place,and the transience of vendors.The main challenges facing in the implementation of EHR are cost of implementation and optimization of EHR will take a huge amount of investment.The implementation process includes setting up of the hardware,software costs,implementation assistance,training for the staff,ongoing network fees,and maintenance.There could be unplanned expenses as well during implementation .Finding financial resources of EHR implementation is one of the major hurdles.Not everyone in the medical staff are aware of handling EHR,this also led to the delayed establishment of EHR.Prior to deploying the EHR system,the staff needs to be given through training about new workflow.If the EHR system is inadequate tofit into the existing workflow,physicians find it difficult to adapt to it.Another challenge is the data privacy concerns of the patient community as well as the provider.Data migration is another challenge for the staff to export papr based documents to date to the digital records.Limitation of technical resources faced by small clnical establishments and private health practitiners.Interoperabilit refers to the ability of the diffrent EHR systems or software to exchange information so that diffrent proiders can make use of it.
