Foreign policy means the country's government strategy in dealing with other countries in the world. Foreign policy promotes unity and integrity of a country. International relations allow the nations to have cooperation with other nations, it helps in pooling resources and combinely help when there is any global crisis to face. By studying international relations, deeper understanding of the global issues can be got.

The foreign policies of any nation to maintain good international relation is shaped of many internal and external forces. The major internal factors that influence it are geographical, culture and history, economic factors, national capability, leadership etc. And external factors like prevalent structure of international politics, defense strengths etc.

Sometimes studying international relations in deep can clearly explain the origins of war and principles or ways to maintain world peace. It helps to know about the nature and power within the global system.

The common goals for maintaining good international relations are,

  • Geographical factors- This is thr most permanent factor. The land, its fertility, the climate, location and resources have influence on the country's capability.
  • Level of economic development- This is one of the most important determinants because it determines the scope of relations that the country wants to have with other nations and what those nations want from us.
  • Cultural and historical factors also have an effect. The cultural unity and historical abundance can have a good impact on country.
  • Social structure - poverty, unemployment, illiteracy etc are included here.
  • Government structure - The policy making and implementations preferred by government of the country.
  • Personality of leaders, experience, internal situation of the country, political accountability, diplomacy, ethics, technological advancements, alliances and international treaties, etc are also important elements determining and influencing the international relations of a country with other nations.
