How is the concept of resort hotel different from other types of hotels? From a manager’s perspective, how is managing a resort hotel different from running other properties?
There exists a very basic difference between a hotel and a resort. A hotel refers to a place which offers you meals and lodging facilities. People visit hotels for small vacation or short stay for a while. On the other hand, resort combines hotel and various other kind of activities and recreations within itself. People visit resort to enjoy, relax for worthwhile stay.
Talking about the management purpose, a manager of the resort has different managerial duties as compared to what he has in a hotel. In a hotel he is responsible to manage the the front desk , the customers in the room and the food services of the hotel. But on the other, a manager has to ensure the food and beverage services, maintainance of the rooms of the customers, the facilitation of the activities that are being taken place, various other programs running, all the operational efficiencies of the front line and other perspective ideas to make the resort a successful business to run.
