Trace the path for a patient that led to late COPD and state the early manifestations of COPD, but the focus is on manifestations following treatment?
It takes several years for COPD to develop. Most people are at
least 40 years old when symptoms of COPD first appear. It's not
impossible to develop COPD as a young adult, but it is rare. There
are certain genetic conditions, such as alpha-1 antitrypsin
deficiency, that can predispose younger people to developing
COPD.
Early Manifestations of COPD:-
1) Shortness of breath, especially during physical
activities.
2) Wheezing.
3) Chest tightness.
4) A chronic cough that may produce mucus (sputum) that may be
clear, white, yellow or greenish.
5) Frequent respiratory infections.
6) Lack of energy.
7) Unintended weight loss (in later stages)
Treatment :-
Rescue inhalers and inhaled or oral steroids can help control
symptoms and minimise further damage. For most people with
COPD,short-acting broncho dilator inhalers are the first treatment
used.Bronchodilators are medicines that make breathing easier by
relaxing and widening your airways. There are 2 types of
short-acting bronchodilator inhaler: beta-2 agonist inhalers such
as salbutamol and terbutaline.
